These terms apply when you commission a pair, a Make It Yours design, a Bespoke & Fit commission or a Recraft from SixKings, on this site, on WhatsApp or at the Atelier. They are written to be read. Nothing in them takes away a right the Consumer Protection Act or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act gives you.

Your commission
Every pair is made to order, for you. We hold no stock. When you choose a pair and pay on this site, you make us an offer to make it. The commission is agreed when payment is received and we confirm it by email. That email, with these terms, is your record of the commission. Ask us at any time and we send you a copy.
Before you pay, the last page shows everything you chose and the price, so you can correct anything or leave without committing.
Photographs show pairs the bench has made before. Full-grain leather is a natural material: grain and shade vary from hide to hide, and a screen shows colour only approximately. Make It Yours and Bespoke & Fit commissions are agreed in writing (on WhatsApp or by email) before payment: that description is what we make.
Price and payment
- Prices are in rand and include VAT.
- Delivery anywhere in South Africa is included. You may also collect at the Atelier.
- You pay in full when you commission, through Payfast. Your card or bank details go to Payfast, never to us.
- Make It Yours is the price of the pattern you start from plus R1,200. Bespoke & Fit is quoted after a first conversation, in writing, before you commit.
- If a price on the site is plainly wrong, we tell you before anything is made. You may then accept the correct price or cancel for a full refund.
Your fit
Give us your UK size, your measurements, or both. The bench checks them and confirms your fit with you before cutting.
Nothing is cut until your fit is confirmed.
Measurements you take yourself are your responsibility; checking them is ours. If we can’t confirm a fit with you, we don’t cut, and you may cancel for a full refund.
Making and delivery
A pair is ready 2–4 weeks after your fit is confirmed. When your fit is confirmed as you pay, that is 2–4 weeks from payment. Bespoke & Fit lead times are quoted with the commission, and Recraft takes 1–2 weeks. By commissioning, you agree to these periods in place of the 30 days the law otherwise sets.
If a pair will be late, we tell you as soon as we know, with a new date. If we have not delivered within the agreed period, you may cancel by giving us seven days’ notice in writing, and we refund you in full.
We deliver by courier to the address you give us. The pair is yours, and at your risk, from the moment it is delivered or collected.
Changing your mind
- Before cutting. Until the leather is cut, you may cancel and we refund you in full.
- After cutting. Your pair is then being made to your specifications. The law’s seven-day cooling-off period (section 42 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act) does not apply to goods made to a client’s specifications, and we can’t take a pair back because you have changed your mind.
- Your mark. Initials stamped into a pair make it yours alone, and it can’t be offered to anyone else.
None of this affects what happens if the pair doesn’t fit as confirmed, or is faulty: see the next two sections. Refunds go back to the card or account you paid with, within ten business days.
When your pair arrives
Try the pair on indoors, on a clean floor, in the socks you will wear. Check the heel, the instep and the toes. If the fit isn’t what was confirmed, tell us within ten business days of delivery, before the pair has been worn outside. The bench looks at each pair and puts right what can be put right; where it can’t, we agree a remake with you.
If something is wrong
Every pair carries the warranty the Consumer Protection Act gives. If a fault in the materials or the making shows within six months (180 days) of delivery, return the pair to us (we pay the courier) and choose a repair, a replacement or a refund. A repair we make carries its own three-month warranty.
The warranty doesn’t cover ordinary wear (soles and heels wear down, and are resoled; leather creases and takes on a patina), damage from misuse or accident, or water. No pair is waterproof.
Recraft
- Resole R750 · repair R450 · back in 1–2 weeks. You pay on collection.
- A repair is everything the bench can do to restore a pair, short of a full resole.
- Outside Pretoria, we arrange the courier: R100 each way.
- We take in SixKings pairs, and welted shoes from other makers once the bench has seen photographs and said yes.
- If the bench finds something it couldn’t see before (hidden damage, a weakness in the upper), it tells you before going further, and you decide.
- Parts and work on a Recraft carry a three-month warranty, as the law sets.
- Please collect your pair within three months of our telling you it is ready. We will try to reach you before then; after that, we may deal with the pair as the law allows.
The rest
- Your information is handled as set out in our Privacy page.
- Payment security. Payments are taken on Payfast’s secure pages, encrypted, to the standard card payments require.
- Our responsibility. We are responsible for loss we cause through our own fault. We aren’t responsible for loss we couldn’t reasonably foresee, or for delay caused by events outside our control, such as courier failures or loadshedding. This limits nothing the Consumer Protection Act holds us to.
- If we disagree. Speak to us first; we would rather put it right. If we can’t resolve it together, you may take it to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (cgso.org.za) or the National Consumer Commission.
- Law. These terms are governed by South African law.
- Changes. We may update these terms; the date at the top shows when. Your commission is governed by the terms in force on the day you placed it.
